Jim & Pam

After 3 long seasons of The Office, it finally happened. An interrupted office confessional fully confirmed what we already knew.

JIM LOVES PAM!!!!!!

After watching that moment for the first time, I remember wiping the tears from my eyes thinking, “I CANT WAIT TO SEE THE WEDDING!”

As the episodes continued, I impatiently waited for their big day! I witnessed an almost proposal in Season 4, followed by the most romantic gas station proposal ever in Season 5!

Jim and Pam finally made it down the aisle during Season 6! It was definitely worth the wait!

Recently, I took time to watch Jim and Pam’s epic wedding on Netflix. I decided to watch from the perspective of “Jess the Wedding Planner” instead of “Jess the Hopeless Romantic”. I loved this episode even more! While watching in “planner mode”, I realized Jim and Pam’s wedding produced some great tips for real life couples to consider as they plan for their big day!

Tip #1
To Waiting
Preparing a speech or writing vows can be a daunting task. I read some great advice in a blog recently. It said that speeches should, “Make a point and tell a story or tell a story to make the point”.

Jim followed this advice perfectly when he shared his rehearsal dinner speech with family and friends (except for the part where he accidentally “spilled the beans” about Pam). He told a beautiful heartfelt story and made a point about waiting to marry his soulmate! There wasn’t a dry eye in the room!

If you find that you need help preparing a toast or writing vows, a planner can be a great resource! They can provide valuable feedback and also lend an ear as you practice for one of the most important days of your life!

Tip #2
Forever

Things don’t always go as planned. Sometimes, family and friends decide to “make the wedding day special” without checking in with the couple!

In Jim and Pam’s case, they decided to just go with the flow (because they had a backup plan)! However, if you want to be a little more strategic, hire a planner! Your planner can work closely with the wedding party and family to ensure that “special surprises” for the couple are vetted and planned appropriately so that things stay on track!

Also, consider giving your planner a “heads up” about any other “challenges” that could occur. It’s always helpful to know about the family members who don’t like each other (Pam’s parents), the guest that might drink a bit too much (Meredith), or the wedding party/colleagues who will likely plan a choreographed dance during the ceremony! A good planner can navigate all these concerns while also making sure everyone enjoys the day!

Tip #3
Backup Plan
Whether it’s for rain or your crazy guests, having a backup plan is important!

Jim and Pam had a funny feeling they would need another option just in case their church wedding became too overwhelming. As a result, they were able to have a beautiful, intimate ceremony on a boat at Niagara Falls!

Couples, please note, your backup plan is only as good as your wedding planner! You should always have a backup/emergency plan regardless of the location of your event. Everything from weather-related issues to power failures can pop up at any time! As you search for a planner, be sure to ask about their experience in this area.

I hope you enjoyed the wedding tips that were inspired by one of my favorite fictional couples! I love that I had a chance to write about wedding stuff and one of my favorite TV shows of all time!
